Delete your account

Effective 16 September 2026 · Applies to the myChap apps
Published by ThetaZero Private Limited.

You can delete your myChap account yourself, at any time, from inside the app. No permission needed, no charge.

If you belong to more than one chapter, myChap lists them and you choose which ones to delete your data from. Choose all of them and your account closes.

This does not end your chapter membership. myChap does not hold your membership — your chapter does, in its own records, and imports the list into myChap. Deleting removes you from the myChap platform only. To resign a membership, contact your chapter directly.

How to delete your account

  1. Open myChap and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile → Settings → Delete account.
  3. Confirm it is you, with the one-time code sent to your registered email.
  4. myChap lists every chapter you belong to. Select the chapters you want your data deleted from — one, several, or all.
  5. Read what will happen, then confirm.

The same steps work in the myChap web app, at the bottom of Profile → Settings.

What each choice does:

Guests do not belong to any chapter, so there is nothing to select. Confirming deletes the account.

Deleting without the app

If you have uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, email privacy@mychap.net from the address registered on your account, with the subject line Account deletion request. Tell us whether you want the whole account deleted or your data removed from particular chapters.

We reply within 48 hours to verify the request and complete it within 30 days. We verify before acting, because acting on a request from someone else would put your account at risk.

What gets deleted

From every chapter you selected:

If you selected every chapter, your account closes and these go too:

Personal data is removed from live systems immediately and purged from backups within 90 days.

We keep a record that you deleted, so that if a chapter later runs a membership import, your profile is not recreated.

What your chapter keeps, and why

A chapter is a legal entity that has to keep its own books. Its Treasurer must be able to reconcile last year's accounts; its auditor must be able to check them; its Volunteer Director must be able to report total hours contributed. Those obligations do not end because one person leaves myChap.

So the following stay in the chapter's records, with your identity removed. Where your name appeared, the record shows Deleted User:

Once your identity is detached, the link cannot be rebuilt. Neither your chapter's board nor we can work backwards from an anonymised record to find out it was you.

One exception: tax invoices. Indian tax law requires an issued invoice to carry the name of the person it was issued to, and requires the chapter to retain it for up to eight years. We cannot remove a name a statute requires to be there. Those invoices stay in the chapter's financial records only. They do not appear in member directories, reports, dashboards or analytics. Your membership number is kept for the same reason, so historical receipts can be reconciled.

Things that must be settled first

Some things have to be resolved before a chapter can be selected, because deleting would leave the chapter unable to operate or leave money unaccounted for. myChap tells you which ones apply and to which chapter.

myChap will also warn you — but let you continue — if you are an active mentor with assigned mentees, if you are assigned as a volunteer to an upcoming program, or if you have an open support ticket.

Things worth knowing

It cannot be undone. There is no recovery window and no archived copy we can restore from.

You can register again. Deleting does not block your email address. You can create a fresh account whenever you like, but your past activity, PDUs and volunteer credit on myChap will not come back.

Your membership of the association is separate. Deleting removes your record in myChap only. Membership of your chapter, and of any professional body your chapter belongs to, is held by those organisations and is unaffected.

Only your own data is deleted. Anything you contributed to the chapter as an organisation — minutes you recorded as Secretary, a budget you prepared as Treasurer — belongs to the chapter and remains in its records.
